What is Mexican Pewter?
Mexican Pewter is a combination of various alloys, consisting mostly of lead-free, non-toxic aluminum. It is different from American and English pewter, which are made primarily of tin and are more delicate. Mexican Pewter is often compared with the look and durability of silver. But unlike silver and other pewter, Mexican Pewter does not tarnish and requires very little maintenance.
Each piece of Mexican pewter is separately sand-cast by hand. Molten metal is poured into molds made of sand. The item is then carefully polished by metalcraft artisans, leaving it with a bright and shiny finish that is also slightly rustic. Each piece is an individual product of the craftsman's hands, and slight variations, minor imperfections, and artisanal touches are therefore to be expected.
Can my Mexican Pewter go in the dishwasher?
No it can not. Doing so will ruin the finish and you may see the shinny finish turn black.
Can my Mexican Pewter be chilled and warmed?
Absolutely! This is part of the beauty of this material! It is a great conductor of heat and cold so feel free to warm the platters in the oven up to 300 degrees fahrenheit, or chill them in the fridge for an hour before using. Enjoy warm summer days entertaining outside, serving cold appetizers or chilled salads and never worry about breaking a glass bowl or tray again!
I see "indents" in my piece, it's not entirely smooth. Can I cut on my piece?
Mexican Pewter is a handmade piece of art. Each piece is done individually as a result some will have markings on them. This is a normal look and is not considered a defect. Small scratches or polishing marks may also be evident as with any metal, this is prone to scratching over time and the look is not meant to be one of perfectly smooth finish. If you are extremely unsatisfied with your piece however, or you feel there is a scratch which is not a "normal" buffing mark, by all means your item will be exchanged for you. We cannot reimburse you for shipping fees as nothing is sent form our store that did not meet our high standards to begin with.
If the recipient does not like the piece I have chosen can they exchange it?
We sure hope they will! We do offer an exchange only policy and the gift can be exchanged for anything we sell. We do ask that exchanges are made within 3 months as we are a small business and this helps to keep our stock current and fresh. Please keep all receipts or let us know who the gift was from.
